The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller

Haven Moore can't control her visions of a past with a boy called Ethan, and a life in New York that ended in fiery tragedy. In our present, she designs beautiful dresses for her classmates with her best friend Beau. Dressmaking keeps her sane, since she lives with her widowed and heartbroken mother in her tyrannical grandmother's house in Snope City, a tiny town in Tennessee. Then an impossible group of coincidences conspire to force her to flee to New York, to discover who she is, and who she was.

In New York, Haven meets Iain Morrow and is swept into an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Iain is suspected of murdering a rock star and Haven wonders, could he have murdered her in a past life? She visits the Ouroboros Society and discovers a murky world of reincarnation that stretches across millennia. Haven must discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves¸ before all is lost and the cycle begins again.

To say the least, The Eternal Ones was an interesting read.  The whole concept of  reincarnation called for a thrilling plot.  I'll admit, it was kind of difficult to get into the first few pages of the novel, but once I was in I was loving the book.  Haven was a likable character, and with a few exceptions, so were all of the other characters.  Although Haven is kind of immature when it comes to certain decisions she's made, but I never really hated her, just hated some of her decisions.

I always find it difficult to write reviews for novels that I genuinely liked (since I am running out of things to say).  But there are a few things that I hated throughout the novel, which was the lack of trust between Haven and Ian.  Sure, he may have been a murderer but it made it difficult to appreciate Haven and Ian's love affair and sometimes made me wonder how they could be considered soul mates if they're relationship was constantly walking on thin ice.

I wouldn't have called this book a love story, more like a mystery since there's the whole thing about trying to find out who the killer is...The whole mystery aspect was cool though.  It was touch and go when you were trying to figure out who the real murderer was and who Haven could really trust. 

I can say that I did like the ending, which calls for a sequel (All You Desire - 08/09/11), although it was kind of flawed.  The novel is pretty exceptional, although I wouldn't really call it a heavy romance novel since it was lacking in that department, but a great mystery/reincarnation novel.

By my standards, because of the many flaws, The Eternal Ones is teetering between gold and silver, but because I liked the novel I'll give it the Gold Moody Seal of Approval!
